Cartier was founded in 1847 by Louis-Francois Cartier when he was presented with the opportunity to take over the business from his mentor. It remained a family owned enterprise with the company later being headed by Louis’ sons, grandsons and great grand sons until the 1970’s.
A group of investors later took over after Pierre (Louis’ great grand son) passed away leading to his children selling the business. The company still remains partly owned by the family with Pierre’s grand daughter Elle Pagels co-owning the business with the Rupert Family.
Cartier now have more than 200 stores around the world and remain a luxury high-end jewellery and watch brand. They have developed signature unique time pieces such as the square shaped Santos and timeless jewellery to stop anyone in their tracks. Anyone who owns a Cartier piece truly holds a piece of history.
