American born Florentine Ariosto Jones founded the watch manufacturer in Schaffhausen in 1868 where he introduced his pioneering approach the watch making and produced exquisite time pieces that not only worked flawlessly but looked beautiful and exclusive too.
Terror struck in 1944 when the factory was hit by an American bomb, which later proved to be a fatal error of the American Army Air Forces. However, in a stroke of luck, the bomb failed to detonate.
IWC’s motto was coined in 1903 as Probus Scafusia meaning “good, solid craftsmanship from Schaffhausen”. The company follow the same standards today and keep the imaginative and forward thinking spirit of Florentine alive.
